Nonprofit Consulting
There can be no better training ground in developing creative, cutting-edge youth and community development programming in a nonprofit setting than New York City. I moved to New York City in 1991 to train as a social worker and stayed to pursue a career in the nonprofit sector there. I have worked in several of the best child welfare, youth development and community-based organizations in the city including Center for Family Life in Sunset Park, Good Shepherd Services and Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC).
In my career, I have worked as a Family Counselor, a Group Worker with youth and adults, an Afterschool Program Director, and a Community Center Director. For 16 years, I led the Youth and Family Services Division at CHLDC, growing it from 5 programs with 75 employees to 14 programs with over 300 employees. At Good Shepherd Services and at CHLDC, I developed an approach to youth leadership programming that has been recognized nationally as an innovative practice. I have played a central role in developing and writing many funded proposals, and am a confident and skilled writer. I have played leadership roles in advocating for youth programs at the city, state and federal levels. I have mentored professionals and programs in the field. I have presented at multiple conferences on best practices in the field, including for the Network for Youth Success and the National Middle School Association .
I believe strongly in the importance of the non-profit sector, and am passionate to deploy my experience and capacity for collaboration to benefit great organizations and the field. I offer consultation in the form of proposal development and writing, professional development, program and organizational development.
